"the voice of applied microbiology"
SfAM Mission Statement

Applied Microbiology is pivotal to solving the challenges we face in the health, food and environmental sectors. SfAM is the voice of Applied Microbiology.

SfAM recognises that in the UK there are skill deficiencies in Applied Microbiology. SfAM will contribute to identifying these deficiencies and will work towards implementing solutions.

Applied Microbiology is essential to the maintenance of our quality of life, such as public health. SfAM will work with others to raise public understanding and appreciation of the application of microbiology to everyday life.

Development and exploitation of Applied Microbiology urgently requires the maintenance and improvement of the microbiological resources in the UK, such as culture collections and other specialised facilities. SfAM will work with others to identify the needs and solutions to achieve these goals for present and future generations of scientists.
