  • Anthrax found in heroin users in Scotland 6th January 2010

    Police have launched an investigation following anthrax infection in 11 heroin users in Scotland. Five people, have died from the infection and a further six heroin users are being treated. Anthrax is a bacterial infection usually found in animals and passed to humans through inhaled or ingested spores. It is thought that the heroin was contaminated with infected material. Police and Health Protection Scotland are urging all heroin users to be aware of signs of infection. The risk to the general public is low.
