SfAM Membership

There are five classes of membership :
Classes of Membership
Full Ordinary
 £50 net per annum

Full membership provides the following benefits:
Full Student
 £25 net per annum

Full student membership confers the same benefits as Full Ordinary Membership at a specially reduced rate for full time students not in receipt of a taxable salary.
Associate
 £15 net per annum

Associate membership is only open to those with an interest in applied microbiology without it being a prime aspect of their job. For example School Teachers and those taking a career break, on maternity leave or working temporarily in other areas, but who wish to retain an interest in microbiology. It does not provide access to any journals or Society grants and awards. The benefits of Associate Membership include:

  • Quarterly copies of Microbiologist our in-house magazine
  • Networking with professional microbiologists from around the world
  • Access to the private members area of our website featuring exclusive SfAM documentation and much more.
Honorary Membership
 By invitation only

Honorary Membership of the Society is by nomination only and this honour is conferred on persons of distinction in the field of applied microbiology. Honorary members also have access to the Society journals.
Corporate Membership
 £450 net per annum

Corporate membership is open to all companies with an interest in microbiology. Corporate members benefits include:

  • Online access to the Society's three journals OR hard copies of Journal of Applied Microbiology and Letters in Applied Microbiology
  • Half page advertisement in each quarterly issue of Microbiologist (which can be upgraded to a larger size at discounted rates)
  • Full page advertisement in the Members' Handbook (Our looseleaf format means that you may change this advertisement whenever you choose)
  • FREE BANNER advert on our links page with a direct link to your company site and an email link for visitors to contact you
  • Up to three members of company staff attending Society meetings at members' rate. (This means a 50% discount on non member registration rate).

Grants and Awards
Want to attend one of our meetings, visit a laboratory overseas, arrange for a student to gain some work experience in your laboratory or organise a one-day meeting in your region? Can't find the money to support this worthwhile venture? Then apply for an SfAM grant. SfAM have an extensive range of grants and awards available to all members for these and additional activities relating to the greater understanding of applied microbiology.
