 What is Synergy?
Synergy holds the online version of our three journals which are published for us by Blackwell Publishing. Full and Student Members get FREE online access to: Journal of Applied Microbiology, Letters in Applied Microbiology and Environmental Microbiology.
How can I access the journals?
There are two steps to accessing the online journals:
- Step 1 Register with, or login to Synergy
- Step 2 Activate your account with your offer code and membership reference number.
Your activation details can be found in your online instruction letter.

About Synergy
Synergy offers SfAM Members easy online access to the Society's journals and a range of features including:
- Powerful Boolean searching by key word or phrase across all SfAM journals
- Keep up to date with the latest tables of contents emailed directly to your desktop
- Articles in both HTML and Adobe PDF format to read on-screen or print out
- Access free sample issues
- Easy to navigate articles with section headings, high quality figures, tables and embedded links
- Reference, author and keyword links direct to databases, including PubMed (MEDLINE), ISI and cited articles through CrossRef
- Link forward to articles that cite the article you are reading
Once you have registered, you will be able to create your own username and password. This will enable you to set up your own homepage, where you can store your favourite articles and request e-alerts which will email the table of contents from your favourite journals directly to you.
