Winners of SfAM Communications Award announced

Congratulations go to Anna Dumitriu and Vicky Young, winners of the SfAM Communications Award 2012 in the "Professional Communicator" and "Scientist" categories respectively. Anna is an artist and has used microbiology extensively in much of her work, creating exhibtis such as the 'Normal Flora' project, and MRSA/MSSA quilt-making. Vicky has developed novel and innovative public engagement events and projects alongside her scientific career. They will receive their awards at the SfAM Summer Conference dinner at 'The Hub' in Edinburgh on 4 July 2012. Look out for more from the winners online and in Microbiologist.

 

 

Our media policy

This is the era of applied microbiology with stories every day in the media about avian flu, MRSA, C. difficile and MMR to name just a few. A measure of the respect that SfAM's Communication team has gained is that journalists contact us for background briefing and explanation as well as the names of microbiologists they can contact.

We will:

if speculation is required, explain the rationale behind that speculation

desist from hyping a story - whether it is the journalist or the scientist doing the hyping
