President's Fund

The President’s Fund provides limited grants to Full Ordinary and Full Student Members to assist them to present at scientific meetings or attend workshops related to their area of work. Awards are made at the sole discretion of the Honorary President. Why not apply for the fund? The maximum grant available is £1200.

Please note that your application will not be considered unless you include with your application form  proof of paper/abstract acceptance and copy of your abstract.

Terms and Conditions

1. Applicants must be a Full Ordinary or Full Student Member for at least one full subscription year and have made two subscription payments in order to be eligible.

2. A successful applicant cannot re-apply to the fund for two years from the date of the award.

3. Preference will be given to members who have not received this award previously.

4. Applicants must contribute to the conference they are attending via posters or oral presentations. Proof of paper/abstract acceptance and a copy of your abstract must be included with the application.

5. All applicants must display the logo of the Society for Applied Microbiology on any presentation given or poster shown.

6.The closing date for the applications is strictly six weeks prior to the event.

7. Full Student Member applications must be supported by their supervisor(s) and include the telephone number(s) and email address(es) of the supervisor(s) or head of department who are supporting their application.

8. The maximum grant available is £1200.

9. The award of this grant is at the sole discretion of the Honorary President of the Society for Applied Microbiology.

10. The applicant must write a short article of between 500 to 1000 words within four weeks of the meeting, the content of which will be agreed with the Editor of Microbiologist and will be published in the magazine at the discretion of the Editor.

11. There is no closing date for this grant and applications can be made at any time during the year.

12. Applicants who receive support from other sources may still receive a grant from the President's Fund.

13. If you are a STUDENT MEMBER a section on the form MUST be completed by your Supervisior or Tutor. Applications which are not supported by your Supervisor will be automatically rejected.

14. In submitting an application, applicants agree to reimburse the Society for any costs it may incur in awarding this grant should the applicant fail to attend the conference or fail to notify the Society of their inability to attend the conference within 14 days of the start of the meeting.
