The grant is available to Full Ordinary or Honorary Members wanting financial support for a short applied microbiology meeting, for example, a symposium or practical workshop. These meetings may be organized by local or national groups with a special interest in microbiology. The grant is aimed at supporting the promotion of the science of microbiology at a local level as well as providing a networking opportunity for established scientists and students working in applied microbiology.

Terms and Conditions
1. The main organizer of the meeting must have been a member of the Society for a minimum of 12 months and have paid at least two annual subscription payments.
2. All applicants must be a Full Ordinary or Honorary Member.
3. Normally a member may not apply for a further Meeting Organization Grant for 18 months.
4. The grant will cover reasonable speaker expenses, including travel and if necessary one night’s hotel accommodation (note only for speakers not delegates). Additionally the grant may be used to contribute towards the cost of, room hire, AV equipment, publicity materials and printing.
5. Costs will normally be paid retrospectively once all receipts are verified by the Society office.
6. The maximum amount available is £2000 (or equivalent in Euro or US Dollars).
7. There is no deadline to apply for this grant. All applications will be processed on receipt of the form by the Society office. Applications will be considered on a first come first served basis, throughout the calendar year, until all the funding has been allocated.
8. Application forms must be received in the Society office at least 12 weeks prior to the event.
9. All applications will be assessed by the grants awards panel and their decision is final.
10. The Society must be acknowledged in the meeting literature.
11. Society promotional material will be made available for distribution to delegates.
12. If appropriate the Society may attend the meeting as an exhibitor at no further cost.
13. Within 45 days of completion of the event the successful applicant must provide a short report (approx. 500 words) of the event to the Editor of Microbiologist for possible publication in a future issue. Failure to comply with this condition will result in the member not being considered for any further grants until this report is received.
