Addressing Mortality from Community Acquired Pneumonia

Date: 00:00AM, 17 April 2012

Location: Liverpool Medical Institution

Information

Large UK audits have recently described significant mortality rates amongst patients admitted to hospital with community acquired pneumonia (CAP). This is the case despite the publication of several clinical guidelines and the acceptance into clinical practice of severity assessment tools such as CURB65. The Department of Health regards CAP mortality rates as a key priority area. Tackling mortality will mean recognising the multi-factorial nature of the problem and solutions will encompass therapeutics, diagnostics, process of care and public health measures.

This workshop aims to review the existing evidence and describe current and future research that may lead to improvements in CAP mortality. There will be presentations on both laboratory science and translational medicine, so this meeting will appeal to both basic scientists and clinicians. Five high quality sessions will include presentations on – epidemiology, aetiology, diagnostics, therapeutics and process of care.

All are welcome to attend. See the event webpage for more information and online registration. There is also a call for poster abstracts (closing date 16 March).
