6th October 2010 to 6th October 2010

Venue:

Hampton Manor, Birmingham, UK

Details:

Technopath are pleased to invite you to this, their 4th Pharmaceutical Microbiology Seminar. Following on from the success of previous years we are once again offering a free to attend 1 day seminar covering many important topics for the Pharmaceutical Microbiologist. In conjunction with Technopath’s suppliers, Biolog, AES Chemunex & MicroBioLogics we have put together what will not only be an informative day but also a very enjoyable one taking advantage of the beautiful Hampton Manor located only a few minutes from Birmingham NEC but well away from the hustle and bustle of Birmingham. Delegates who travel to the event the day before are once again invited to a complimentary pre-seminar dinner at Hampton Manor. We have secured a special room rate at a local hotel and delegates will be transported between the two for both the dinner and the seminar should they wish to use this hotel. Seminar Programme The programme is not only aimed at people who may be interested in our technology and are not familiar with it, but also existing users and people who are just looking for general learning in the area of Pharmaceutical Microbiology. Dr Carol Phillips of NCIMB will be presenting an overview of current microbial identification methods, there will be a presentation on the use and validation of Quantitative QC organisms in the laboratory, and Tim Sandle of BPL will discuss issues of culture media selection, testing and release. Existing users of the Biolog microbial identification system will be able to learn how to make the most of their data analysis software and see how other companies validated the system while new people to the Biolog technology will get an excellent overview of the whole system given by a user of the system. AES Chemunex will provide us with the latest developments and applications in rapid microbial detection including rapid surface and air monitoring applications. A second presentation will cover the regulatory requirements for the validation of a rapid microbial method. Finally we will have a presentation by Microbiologist Dr Anthony C. Hilton from the TV series Grime Scene Investigation and BBC’s The One Show. He will be sharing some of his experiences and bring a whole new meaning to phrase environmental monitoring! Morning Session: An overview of Microbial Identification Methods Dr Carol Phillips, NCIMB Introduction to the Biolog Generation III Identification System Peter Penn, Biolog The Biolog System from a Customers Perspective Stephen Rawling, GSK Weybridge Culture Media Selection, Release & Testing Tim Sandle, BPL Afternoon Session: The Use of Quantitative QC Organisms In a Microbiology Lab Dr. Karla Fjeld, MicroBioLogics Inc. Yakult Uk Symposium 2010 Probiotic Progress: Health Implications for the Gut and Beyond
12th October 2010

Venue:

Institute of Physics 76 Portland Place London, UK W1B 1NT

Details:

Back by Popular Demand Celebrating 75 Years of Probiotic Science This year Yakult celebrates 75 years since Dr Shirota developed Yakult, using the probiotic strain Lactobacillus casei Shirota that he had discovered earlier in 1930. Probiotic research has been going strong ever since, and has now considerably intensified and diversified. This symposium provides a platform for experts to present the latest research on probiotics relating to a range of health and disease conditions. The aims of this one-day symposium are: 1) to give an overview of the current research into the various health benefits of probiotics 2) to provide an insight into the potential of probiotics in different healthcare situations. The symposium would be of interest to all healthcare professionals, students and researchers, and in particular those specialising in nutrition and dietetics, primary care, infection control, care of the elderly, sports science and gastroenterology.

UW-River Falls 30th Food Microbiology Symposium “Current Concepts in Foodborne Pathogens and Rapid and Automated Methods in Food Microbiology.”
17th October 2010 to 17th October 2010

Venue:

University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Wisconsin, USA

Details:

Speakers from academia, industry and regulatory agencies will provide an overview and update on the pathogens, toxins, and contaminants that may occur in food, water, and the environment. The emphasis will be on the practical applications of this information to solve food microbiological safety and quality problems. In addition, technical representatives of select companies involved in developing and marketing instruments and assays for microbiological analysis of food will participate in the program. They will give a brief presentation and demonstrate the latest technology they have to offer.
